As one of SGM’s four core values, “community minded” means investing our time, energy, and resources in the communities where we live and work. With warm weather and blue skies, SGM employees have been volunteering at events across Western Colorado, supporting organizations and initiatives that strengthen the places we call home. Here are a few highlights from SGM’s volunteer efforts so far this summer.
Bike to Work Day – Glenwood Springs, CO
Throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, home to SGM’s headquarters, Bike to Work Day featured stations from Parachute to Aspen where participants stopped by, logged their rides, earned points for prize drawings, and picked up swag from event hosts. SGM welcomed more than 100 cyclists at the 23rd Street Bike to Work station—from commuters and recreational riders to parents dropping kids off at camp and daycare.
Events like this are a great reminder of how quality multi-modal infrastructure keeps Western Colorado moving. Our team thoroughly enjoyed connecting with local commuters who rely on the infrastructure we help design every day.
Special Olympics of Colorado (SOCO) Summer Games – Grand Junction, CO
SGM volunteers supported the Special Olympics Colorado Summer Games in Grand Junction by assisting with soccer competitions, wrestling events, and Olympic Town activities. Held annually at Colorado Mesa University, the Summer Games bring together athletes from across Colorado to compete, build friendships, and celebrate the power of sport.
During the opening reception, volunteers heard inspiring stories from athletes preparing to compete at the national games, sharing firsthand how Special Olympics has positively impacted their lives. One inspiring aspect of the Summer Games is that many athletes participate throughout their lives, with some continuing to compete into their 90s.
Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers Red Hill Trail Build – Carbondale, CO
SGM volunteered with Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers to help with trail work on a Roaring Fork Valley favorite — the Red Hill Trail. The work focused on drainage and erosion control to help maintain one of the valley’s most heavily used trail systems.
Whether supporting community events or maintaining local trails, SGM employees are proud to give back to the communities where we live and work. Community Minded isn’t just one of our core values—it’s something we strive to demonstrate throughout the year.
